Director of Education
Deanna brings more than 25 years of science education and classroom teaching experience and expertise guiding transformative professional learning for science educators to her work at VEEP. She has taught in public and private schools, coached science teachers, and formerly oversaw science curriculum, instruction and assessment for Barre Supervisory Union before serving as VEEP’s science curriculum specialist from 2013-15. Most recently, Deanna served as Lead Instructor and Project Manager for the Vermont Science Initiative and senior facilitator of the Next Generation Science Professional Development System (NGSX). Deanna helps educators inspire students’ curiosity and love of science exploration by building phenomena-centered, sense-making learning cultures that help students uncover how their world works and take action to make our world and communities healthier. She has a BA in biology and education from Dartmouth College, an MS in science education from Montana State University, and is working toward a doctoral degree from the University of Vermont. Deanna lives in Huntington with her husband and loves hiking, running, and backcountry skiing.
