VEEP and NHEEP are offering virtual STEM labs to learn about specific energy topics and practice science and engineering design for home school students or students just interested in the topic. Groups will meet over several weeks with an online instructor.
These programs are capped at 10-15 students, so sign up below as soon as you can. Materials will not be shipped until payment has been received. More programs will be added soon for February and beyond!
January STEM Labs
Join us for a hands-on lab to explore the power of wind! Participants will be guided through a set of 3 lessons that will culminate in designing a wind-powered sail car. A fan will be needed for these lessons, all other materials will be provided.

Electricity: From the electron to the ipad
Come join us as we explore this wondrous, magic-like phenomenon we call electricity. These lessons, filled with hands-on activities, will help you understand the science behind that plug in the wall. Each participant will receive an equipment kit to use during the lab.

Shining a light on our electrical connections to climate
What do holiday lights, smart phones, and your refrigerator have in common? And how does that relate to our environment and climate? We’ll figure out how electricity is generated, how our electricity use might impact the world around us, and what actions we can take to reduce negative impacts. In order to investigate these things, you’ll do hands-on demos and experiments with our equipment, search for electrical vampires in your home, and come up with an action plan to change the world (or at least your lightbulbs).
- Grades: 9-12
- # of Sessions: 4
- Dates: Tuesdays, January 12, 19, and 26, and February 2
- Time: 1-2 pm
- Educator: Angie Krysiak and Aubrey Nelson
- Equipment cost to borrow: TBD
- Equipment cost to purchase: TBD
